THE City Government of Masbate, in support to the Oplan Tokhan (Toktuk-Hangyo) of President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s all-out war against illegal drugs through the Masbate City Police Station has facilitated the surrender of 105 drug personalities in the city. As of July 8, 2016, the Masbate City Police headed by PSupt. Brian B. Castillo, have listed three drug peddlers or pushers and 102 drug users from eight barangays in the poblacion. In 2013, when City Mayor Rowena R. Tuason assumed office, she already issued a directive to the city police force to intensify their campaign against the use and proliferation of illegal drugs in the city’s thirty barangays. Mayor Tuason even provided the City PNP mobile patrol cars and other equipment, such as hand-held radio units for the purpose. True enough, known drug personalities and from known families in the city who were believed to be in the illegal drugs trade were apprehended by the City PNP and they are now locked up in jail and facing string of cases from drugs peddling to using. Of the 105 surrenderres now in the data base of the City PNP, a number of them are from Barangay Bagumbayan, 62. Twenty drug users from Brgy. Nursery have also surrendered, 11 from Brgy. F. Magallanes, 7 from Brgy. Espinosa, 2 from Brgy. Bapor and one each from barangays Pating, Ibingay and Kinamaligan. In her message during the flag raising ceremony on July 8, Mayor Rowena R. Tuason has a strong warning to employees of the city hall, both permanent and casuals employees, that she will not think twice in issuing sanctions, and fire them if necessary, the employees who will be found involved in illegal drugs. Mayor Tuason also reiterated her directive to the personnel of the City PNP, with Supt. Castillo and his men present in attendance, to double their effort in eradicating the drug menace in Masbate City.
